Overview
The organization is accepting applications for an Adjunct Instructor position in Business Law (adjunct, part-time). The role is grant-funded: No.
Location: Hattiesburg, Mississippi (118 College Drive, Hattiesburg, MS 39406-0001, United States).
Course focus: A senior-level business law course focused on topics tested on the CPA exam.
Scheduling/Delivery: Candidates may be asked to teach on the Hattiesburg or Gulf Park campus, in a remote delivery format, or online. Campus classes will be delivered late afternoons or evenings. Adjunct instructors are engaged to teach classes on a class-by-class, semester-by-semester basis.
Application screening: Screening of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. The position will remain open until filled.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver courses covering assigned content and topics.
- Communicate course requirements to students.
- Teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes as needed.
- Provide support and course advising to enrolled students, including exams, required remediation, and summative evaluations.
- Collaborate with other faculty and the Director to plan, implement, and evaluate each course offering to maintain quality and effectiveness.
- Assign and evaluate assessments required for assurance of learning.
- Follow the policies and procedures of the College of Business and Economic Development, the School of Accountancy, and the University.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA accredited law school.
- 5 years of substantial practice experience as an attorney in an area of commercial / business law.
- Meet the qualifications required for a scholarly academic, practice academic, scholarly practitioner, or instructional practitioner in accounting for AACSB accreditation purposes.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to teach effectively (online and in traditional settings) at the university level.
- Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven track record of effective teaching practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from all backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
- Knowledge of advanced business law topics.
- Ability to navigate and use learning management systems for teaching (e.g., Canvas) and other technological communications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Proficiency in teaching strategies and techniques for all student populations.
Preferred Qualifications
- An undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting.
- Certification as a CPA.
- Prior teaching experience at a four-year university delivering online and campus classes.
- Experience with learning management and online homework systems.
Compensation & Benefits
