Assistant General Counsel, Commercial

Overview

A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking an Assistant General Counsel, Commercial to join their team. This role involves driving significant impact across key initiatives by partnering cross-functionally to deliver measurable outcomes. The position offers the opportunity to influence both strategy and execution within a high-growth environment.

Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)

Compensation: $239,200 – $331,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead the rebuilding of a commercial legal team
• Negotiate and draft contracts for third-party engagements
• Support the lending partnerships sales team
• Ensure compliance and alignment with business strategies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to execute contracts

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in commercial transactions and in-house legal representation
• Experience managing a legal team
• Ability to balance individual contributions with team leadership
• Background in both law firm and in-house environments
• Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills
• In-depth knowledge of contract law
• Experience with asset liens and perfecting liens

Preferred Qualifications

• Expertise in contract law and commercial transactions
• Experience in banking and fintech commercial legal matters
• Familiarity with data privacy issues, true lender concepts, and true sale issues
• Admission to the California Bar and/or New York Bar
• Proficiency with CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) for managing client relationships and partnerships
• Experience with document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments) for contract and legal document management
• Familiarity with collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams) to facilitate communication within remote teams
