Overview

This creditor’s rights law firm is seeking an Associate Attorney for the Houston, Corpus Christi, or Laredo areas in Texas. The role reports to the Texas State Managing Attorney and focuses on litigating debt collection matters while independently performing risk analysis and developing legal strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Represent clients in pre-suit and post-judgement matters.
  • Review correspondence and file information to determine whether a lawsuit or motion is appropriate for filing.
  • Review answers and prepare responses to discovery and dispositive motions.
  • Manage all aspects of preparing for and appearing as counsel at hearings and trials.
  • Attend court settings throughout the state of Texas through virtual appearances.
  • Attend physical court settings as needed in courts in close proximity.
  • Provide legal and regulatory risk analysis and advice.
  • Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, and other documents.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Background in litigation.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, with experience in collection law and/or courtroom experience.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of FDCPA/FCRA/TCPA is a plus.

Education & Experience

  • JD in law.

Licensure / Certification

  • Attorney bar license in Texas (Required).

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear, and to use hands to type, handle, or touch objects.
  • Regularly required to stand and walk, and may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above the shoulders.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $75,000 to $85,000 per year
