Overview
An organization is seeking an Associate Corporate Counsel with 2-4 years of legal experience to provide comprehensive legal support across multiple areas including commercial contracts, technology transactions, intellectual property, data privacy, artificial intelligence, compliance, product development, vehicle operations, litigation, procurement, employment, and general operations. This role requires balancing legal expertise with practical business solutions and collaborating closely with internal teams in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel and strategic advice to engineering and product development teams to integrate legal considerations into technology design, development, and deployment.
- Negotiate, draft, and review commercial contracts such as technology licensing agreements, service agreements, procurement/vendor agreements, NDAs, development agreements, proofs of concept, evaluation, and technology transfer agreements.
- Manage intellectual property protection, commercialization, and licensing in collaboration with internal teams.
- Ensure compliance with data protection laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) related to product development and operations.
- Advise on employment law matters including employee relations, investigations, and workplace policies.
- Support litigation efforts through fact gathering, strategy development, outside counsel management, and litigation tracking.
- Provide legal guidance on AI and emerging technologies, including ethical considerations, intellectual property, legislation, and regulations; conduct legal research and risk assessments.
- Offer general legal counsel on corporate governance, operations, regulatory compliance, and corporate policies.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- 2-4 years of experience as a practicing attorney in a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Relevant experience ideally in technology, automotive, or engineering-related industries.
- Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable, business-oriented advice.
- Strong research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.
- Highly motivated, detail-oriented, intellectually curious, and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to fostering positive and respectful internal and external relationships.
- Proactive attitude with enthusiasm for handling tasks of varying sizes.
- Admission to and good standing with the bar of at least one state (California, Michigan, or Georgia preferred).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a global technology company.
- Familiarity with legal issues related to AI and autonomous vehicles.
- Prior law firm experience.
- Certification in privacy such as CIPP/US.
- Experience with litigation.
