Overview
The organization is seeking an Associate Counsel, PIP to defend arbitrations and lawsuits filed in New York and other first-party insurance defense matters. This role is with Staff Counsel and is based in New York.
Responsibilities
- Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
- Provide opinions on coverage, medical necessity/causation, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
- Prepare and handle arbitration submissions and examinations under oath
- Defend assigned matters through trial or dispositive hearings, as applicable
Requirements (Basic Qualifications)
- 2 to 6+ years of litigation experience REQUIRED
- Juris Doctor degree REQUIRED
- Admission to the New York Bar REQUIRED
- Must be licensed in good standing to practice law in New York and meet and maintain licensing requirements, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements where applicable
- Ability to travel as required, including but not limited to trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences
- Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally for understanding by customers, clients, co-workers, and other organizational employees
- Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, with strong organization/priority-setting and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to learn and apply large amounts of technical and procedural information
Preferred Qualifications
- Civil litigation experience
- Insurance defense-related litigation experience and/or personal injury
- Ability to communicate professionally in person, via telephone, and in written correspondence
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual Salary: $118,900.00 - $186,550.00
- The annual salary range is a general guideline. Final compensation is based on factors including scope and responsibilities of the role, work experience, education and training, work location, and market/business considerations.
