Overview

This role supports the organization’s global legal affairs, with a focus on building a dedicated product legal function to partner directly with product, research, engineering, and go-to-market teams from the earliest stages of development.

As Associate General Counsel, Product, you will report to the Head of Product Legal and act as a strategic legal partner for matters that shape how products are designed, built, and brought to market. The position is defined by impact—helping move complex, technology-driven transactions to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel product and research teams, providing practical, business-calibrated legal guidance across the full product lifecycle, with emphasis on strategic transactions and partnerships
  • Draft, negotiate, and execute complex technology-driven transactions that advance product strategy, including:
    • Strategic partnerships
    • Licensing
    • Joint development
    • Supply and manufacturing arrangements
  • Help shape playbooks, processes, and infrastructure for a new product legal function designed to scale with the business
  • Collaborate with product, research, engineering, finance, privacy, compliance, trade, and other cross-functional stakeholders, and manage outside counsel
  • Communicate effectively in both directions by:
    • Distilling complex legal concepts into clear, actionable guidance for non-lawyers
    • Translating product, engineering, and business strategy into guidance that sharpens product legal priorities

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar (or eligibility for in-house/registered counsel status in your state of employment)
  • 8+ years of relevant experience at a leading law firm and/or in-house legal department
  • Substantial experience advising on strategic partnerships for the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of technology products, both in the US and abroad
  • Proven track record drafting, negotiating, and executing complex technology transactions with direct impact on business or product strategy
  • Demonstrated versatility across product and transactional matters, including the ability to build skills beyond core practice areas
  • Judgment to advise confidently amid ambiguity, with comfort working on genuinely novel legal questions in areas where technology is unprecedented and legal frameworks are still being written
  • Interest in improving speed and efficiency, including leveraging existing AI tools and helping to build superior ones

Preferred Qualifications

  • In-house legal experience with a mature US technology company
  • Experience specific to hardware products or hardware-focused businesses
  • Experience supporting post-acquisition integration of products, technologies, or businesses
  • Proficiency with multiple languages

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $160,000—$200,000 USD
  • Total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options.
  • If this role has a commission structure, the compensation range above reflects base compensation only.
  • Compensation varies based on factors including education, qualifications, experience, specific office location, and calibration against market data and internal team equity.
  • Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans; matching 401(k); unlimited PTO and paid holidays; parental/adoption leave; legal insurance; and a home technology stipend.

Location

This position can work onsite or hybrid from one of the organization’s offices in the US or fully remote.

  • Travel: Up to 10%

Export Control / Government Contract Eligibility (US)

Access to technology subject to U.S. export control and government contract restrictions may be required. Employment is contingent on verifying “U.S. Person” status for export controls and government contracts work (e.g., U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum), obtaining any necessary license, and/or confirming the availability of a license exception under U.S. export controls.

If the organization cannot confirm U.S. Person status for export control and government contracts work purposes, it may choose not to apply for a license or decline to use a license exception for access to export-controlled technology that requires authorization, and may decline to proceed with an application for government contracts work that requires U.S. Persons.

Additional immigration-status questions will be used for export control and compliance purposes and reviewed by compliance personnel to ensure compliance with federal law.

(For US Non-Technical Jobs: candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.)
