California General Liability Associate (West Coast)

Overview

This role supports a general liability defense practice as an Associate Attorney, managing a full civil litigation caseload. Responsibilities span matters from discovery through mediation and trial preparation, with the potential for progression into more senior roles.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of general liability defense matters, including premises liability, personal injury, and casualty cases
• Draft and respond to motions, complaints, and written discovery
• Attend and defend depositions, appear at court hearings, and participate in client meetings
• Assist with preparation for mediations and trials
• Manage approximately 25 or more cases at a time
• Meet an annual billing expectation of approximately 1,950 hours

Requirements

• Two to eight years of civil defense litigation experience, preferably in general liability, premises liability, bodily injury, personal injury, or casualty defense
• Active California bar license in good standing
• JD from an ABA-approved law school
• Defense-side law firm experience managing full caseloads (not limited to motion work)
• Ability to independently manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision
• Experience with depositions, court appearances, discovery drafting, and mediation or trial preparation
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and LexisNexis
• Must be eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary: $130,000 to $170,000 annually
• Quarterly bonus opportunities
• Visa sponsorship not available
