Claims Attorney - Remote

Overview

This remote position involves managing litigated claims to expedite settlements and control litigation costs. The role requires evaluating exposure, analyzing anticipated defense costs, and establishing defense plans for outside counsel.

Responsibilities

• Manage litigated claims to expedite settlements and control litigation costs by evaluating exposure, analyzing anticipated defense costs, and establishing defense plans for outside counsel
• Maintain adequate reserves
• Participate in round table discussions prior to alternative dispute resolution (ADR) or trial to evaluate risk and establish settlement parameters
• Advise claims staff on legal issues, investigations, liability, and damages
• Provide legal opinions to internal stakeholders regarding coverage issues, interpretation of insurance law or policy language, and other claims- or insurance-related matters as assigned
• Present internal training seminars to departments including Claims and Underwriting
• Maintain litigation files to ensure compliance with internal standards
• Assist with the development of policy forms and endorsements
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate and license to practice law
• Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong problem-solving and negotiating skills
• Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment and effectively organize and prioritize tasks
• Ability to work well with others

Preferred Qualifications

• Three years of litigation experience focusing on personal injury and/or property claims
• Trial experience
• Background in insurance law, tort law, and/or property law
• Experience providing legal advice regarding insurance or claims-related matters
• Knowledge of the operations and requirements of insurance companies and insured customers
