Overview

This role is responsible for building and owning the organization’s commercial contracting practice as the first dedicated in-house Commercial Counsel. You will partner closely with the go-to-market team to negotiate agreements with enterprise customers and increasingly serve as the primary point of contact for legal questions across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Own commercial contracting end-to-end, including:
    • Master Service Agreements (MSAs)
    • Order Forms
    • Data Processing Addendums (DPAs)
    • Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs)
    • Vendor and partnership agreements
  • Partner with go-to-market to drive complex enterprise deals to completion while balancing risk, speed, and commercial realities
  • Build and maintain templates, playbooks, workflows, and automations to support scaling
  • Support broader legal matters across privacy, product, data, employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, IP, and disputes; engage outside specialists when needed
  • Take increasing ownership of the organization’s legal function as it grows
  • Draft, redline, negotiate, advise the business, and build legal processes and systems hands-on

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of legal experience, ideally combining strong law firm training with in-house experience at a high-growth technology company, with a focus on commercial contracting
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active license to practice law in the US
  • Significant experience independently negotiating complex enterprise technology, SaaS, and data agreements
  • Excellent legal and commercial judgment, including knowing what matters, what doesn’t, and when to escalate
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex legal issues and provide practical, actionable recommendations
  • Comfortable representing the organization with customers, building trust with customer legal and procurement teams, and working through difficult issues without unnecessary friction
  • Thrive in ambiguity and enjoy building systems rather than relying on established processes
  • Excited to apply AI and automation to build a modern legal function

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with privacy/data/product counseling
  • Experience with legal ops and automation
  • Experience across employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, and IP matters

Compensation & Benefits

  • Compensation Range: $175K - $250K
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Minimum 20-day vacation policy
  • Encouraged time off with flexibility to accommodate priorities outside of work
