Commercial Underwriting Counsel (Remote)
Overview
A leading organization in the Real Estate & Construction sector is seeking a Commercial Underwriting Counsel to join their team remotely. This role focuses on providing business-aligned legal guidance related to governance, compliance, and operational risk management. The position involves partnering with leadership, compliance teams, and cross-functional groups to translate complex legal and operational issues into practical recommendations that support responsible execution, improved decision-making, and sustainable growth.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $129,300 – $172,300 annually
Responsibilities
- Provide underwriting support and legal counsel for real estate title insurance commitments and policies
- Apply underwriting standards to authorize issuance of title insurance within delegated limits
- Guide personnel involved in real estate settlement services
- Establish and communicate underwriting standards consistent with organizational procedures
Requirements
- 8-10 years of title underwriting experience; commercial underwriting experience preferred
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required
- Licensed and admitted to practice law in the state of employment, in good standing
- Strong familiarity with real estate law
- Deep understanding of real estate title and settlement processes

- Commercial underwriting expertise
- Proficiency with negotiation tools, case management software, legal technology platforms, data analytics tools, and collaboration software
