Overview
This role involves contract attorney work focused on reviewing legal bills submitted by law firms to clients. It is suited for licensed attorneys with prior experience at large law firms seeking part-time, flexible, and less stressful work. The position requires strong knowledge of legal billing practices, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
Responsibilities
- Complete an online paid training course (estimated 8 to 12 hours)
- Work 15 to 25 hours per week
- Analyze hourly legal bills for compliance with client Outside Counsel Billing Guidelines
- Use proprietary software to perform billing review tasks
- Identify excessive or non-compliant charges on legal bills
- Verify accuracy of expenses and disbursements
- Write persuasive narratives explaining why charges are excessive or non-compliant
- Complete assigned work within three business days
- Participate in monthly review sessions with the operations team to improve analysis quality
Requirements
- Licensed attorney based in the United States
- Minimum 5 years of experience at a large law firm with hourly client billing
- Commitment to high standards of compliant and ethical legal billing
- Strong knowledge of legal work, law firm policies, and billing practices
- Proficiency with computer software and emerging technologies
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Comfortable reviewing and analyzing large volumes of data and performing data entry
- Healthy skepticism and critical thinking
- Good tact and diplomacy with persuasive communication skills
- Clear, concise, and polished writing abilities
- Strong sense of ownership and pride in work, including thorough proofreading
