Overview
This role involves ongoing contract attorney work focused on reviewing legal bills submitted by law firms to clients. It is well-suited for licensed attorneys with prior experience at large law firms seeking part-time, flexible, and lower-stress work. The position requires strong knowledge of legal billing practices, attention to detail, and analytical skills.
Responsibilities
- Complete an online paid training course (estimated 8 to 12 hours)
- Work approximately 15 to 25 hours per week
- Analyze hourly legal bills for compliance with clients' Outside Counsel Billing Guidelines
- Utilize proprietary software to perform billing review tasks
- Identify excessive or non-compliant charges on legal bills
- Verify accuracy of expenses and disbursements
- Write clear, persuasive narratives explaining why charges are excessive or non-compliant
- Complete assigned work within three business days
- Participate in monthly review sessions with the operations team to improve analysis quality
Requirements
- Licensed attorney based in the United States
- Minimum 5 years of experience at a large law firm that bills clients hourly
- Commitment to upholding high standards for compliant and ethical legal billing
- Strong knowledge of legal work, law firm policies, and legal billing practices
- High proficiency with computer software and emerging technologies
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Comfortable reviewing and analyzing large volumes of data and performing data entry
- Healthy skepticism and critical thinking skills
- Good tact and diplomacy; able to persuade effectively without being pushy
- Clear, concise, and polished writing skills
- Strong sense of ownership and pride in work, including thorough proofreading and quality control
