Overview

This fully remote role supports a fast-moving, consumer-facing organization as a legal leader, partnering with marketing, customer care, and technology teams to help the business move quickly while maintaining strong compliance.

The position reports to the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and covers a broad portfolio across intellectual property, privacy, consumer protection, marketing and promotions, and commercial contracts. The role also helps build legal infrastructure through repeatable processes, playbooks, and frameworks that enable efficient operations with appropriate risk tolerance.

Responsibilities

  • Own legal review of marketing and promotional content to ensure consumer-facing communications comply with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on subscription commerce law, advising on compliance with FTC rules, state auto-renewal laws, and emerging regulations; partner with customer care and product teams to support regulatory compliance.
  • Act as the primary legal partner for the influencer program, including drafting and maintaining contract templates and a playbook for the influencer team; advise on influencer partnerships and activations; provide day-to-day compliance guidance.
  • Advise on intellectual property matters, including trademark protection and enforcement, brand licensing, and content clearance.
  • Advise on FDA requirements as they apply to the organization’s curated product assortment, partnering cross-functionally with merchandising and product teams.
  • Lead privacy compliance efforts in partnership with technology and product teams, ensuring data practices align with applicable privacy laws and regulations across the consumer lifecycle, including guidance for subscription and e-commerce data flows (consent frameworks, data minimization, and compliance with CCPA/CPRA and other state privacy laws).
  • Advise on legal considerations related to technology and AI initiatives by building governance frameworks as the regulatory landscape evolves.
  • Provide legal support for the Mexico business, advising on local regulatory requirements, commercial arrangements, and consumer-facing matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial contracts to enable timely business execution.
  • Manage outside counsel relationships, including selecting and overseeing external legal partners, managing budgets, and ensuring efficient use of external resources.

Requirements

  • J.D. degree and active bar membership in good standing
  • 10+ years of legal experience with a mix of law firm and in-house counsel roles preferred
  • Deep knowledge of consumer protection law, advertising and marketing regulations, and subscription commerce, with hands-on experience advising teams on compliant go-to-market strategies
  • Solid background in intellectual property, privacy, and commercial contracts, with the ability to manage all three areas simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to serve as a business partner: provide practical, direct advice to non-lawyer audiences and help teams find solutions rather than only identifying risks
  • Experience managing outside counsel and legal spend, with a track record of building efficient, cost-effective relationships with external partners
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Comfortable advising in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and in the face of ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience specifically advising consumer-facing brands, particularly in beauty, personal care, or subscription commerce
  • Background navigating the intersection of marketing, technology, and regulation

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $200,000 USD - $250,000 USD
  • Competitive base salary & bonus program
  • Medical, dental & vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Paid Time Off
  • Work from home flexibility
  • Free subscription
  • Learning & development programs
