Overview
The organization is building an AI-native law firm infrastructure, where legal professionals retain ownership of judgment, advocacy, and client relationships.
This effort is already operating in Switzerland, with a planned California rollout. The US practice does not yet exist; this is being developed to match how California requires the firm to be structured.
The role involves co-founding and owning the legal practice and co-founding the management services organization (MSO) that builds and runs everything outside the practice of law.
Responsibilities
- Own and operate the law firm, including:
- Your license, entity, clients, and professional judgment
- Ultimate control over professional decisions
- Co-found and help run the MSO together with the organization, including:
- Building and operating the systems that support the firm but are not the practice of law (including AI systems, engineering, operations, finance, marketing, administration, and recruiting)
- Serve the law firm through an arm’s-length services agreement
- Structure the MSO’s operations under a services-fee arrangement
Requirements
- Admitted in California and in good standing
- Senior enough that clients hire you directly
- Bring a book of business and strong professional relationships (e.g., GCs, partners, founders, alumni) that can be converted into engagements
- Have considered leaving to start your own firm, but avoided doing so because you did not want to spend three years building a back office
- Seek ownership (including founder equity) rather than a salary track
- Strong knowledge of legal ethics, including:
- independence of judgment
- fee-sharing
- confidentiality
- unauthorized practice
- ability to understand MSO structures and identify where limits sit
- Prefer solving cases over discussing how to solve cases
- Tech-curious; comfortable with AI in legal practice
- Comfortable operating early, without reliance on brand, precedent banking, or support staff on day one
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or advising on MSO, ABS, or other alternative legal service structures
- Prior ownership of a P&L or a practice group
- Litigation experience alongside advisory work
- A second language
Compensation & Benefits
- Founder equity in the MSO
- Founder economics tied to the law firm you own and operate
- Equity arrangement includes real upside across both entities
