General Counsel

Overview

A healthcare technology organization is seeking a General Counsel to lead its legal function during a period of high growth and operational complexity. This role involves overseeing all legal affairs, partnering with executive leadership and the Board, and preparing the company for potential public company status. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in venture-backed technology or healthcare companies, strong commercial judgment, and familiarity with IPO readiness and public company legal disciplines. Experience with AI-enabled legal tools is highly valued.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the legal team, establishing priorities and operational rhythms to support growth and enterprise risk management
• Advise the executive team and Board on legal, regulatory, governance, and business matters
• Collaborate with Commercial, Product, Clinical, People, Finance, and Operations teams to facilitate company growth
• Manage corporate legal matters including governance, financing, strategic transactions, litigation, employment, and risk
• Oversee healthcare regulatory and compliance strategy in a rapidly evolving environment
• Prepare the organization for public company requirements such as governance, disclosure, and operational rigor
• Support complex commercial contracting with enterprise customers, health plans, employers, and strategic partners
• Build scalable legal processes and infrastructure suitable for a high-growth company
• Modernize the legal function through adoption of AI-enabled tools and workflows
• Manage outside counsel relationships and potential in-house legal team expansion
• Foster a practical, solutions-oriented legal culture balancing risk management with business velocity

Requirements

• Significant legal leadership experience in a high-growth, venture-backed technology or healthcare company
• Experience as General Counsel or senior legal leader at a company with $200M+ in revenue and operational complexity
• Strong commercial orientation and ability to act as a business partner
• Experience supporting IPO readiness, serving as a top legal leader through an IPO process, or operating within a public company legal environment
• Strong executive presence with ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders and Boards
• Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
• Proven track record of architecting AI systems that improve business efficiency
• Combination of strategic thinking and hands-on operational capability
• Experience building and leading high-performing legal teams
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree required; strong academic credentials preferred
• Based in or willing to spend significant time in the San Francisco Bay Area or Denver

• Meaningful healthcare industry experience, including familiarity with healthcare regulatory environments

Compensation & Benefits

• Location-based compensation structure
• Salary range for this role: $267,551 - $317,614, commensurate with qualifications and experience

• Remote-first company with office hubs in Denver and San Francisco
• Corporate roles are not hired in the following states: AK, AR, DE, HI, ME, MS, NM, OK, SD, VT, WI
