Legal Counsel

Overview

This role is for a second legal hire within a small legal team. The position is remote in the US.

The work is intentionally broad and generalist in nature, with the expectation that the role will be shaped around the successful candidate’s strengths and interests (for example, contracts, privacy, IP, product counseling, employment, or legal operations).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, depending on fit and need:

• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements (e.g., customer, vendor, partner, and creator contracts), potentially owning matters end-to-end (intake, drafting, negotiation, close, and filing)
• Handling licensing agreements across countries and continents
• Assisting with patent preparations
• Supporting immigration-related matters
• Addressing corporate governance matters
• Managing agency actions from the U.S. trademark office
• Supporting collaboration deals with film directors, musical artists, and creative studios
• Creating AI-powered legal workflows (legal drafting, review, research, and triage using AI tools)
• Participating in state and global taxation matters
• Supporting enterprise sales contracts
• Conducting data privacy and information security screenings
• Supporting financings
• Providing guidance in additional areas that come up as the business evolves

Requirements

• Generalist mindset aligned with the idea that broad capability can be valuable in a specialized world
• Experience level equivalent to 25 years, or 25 months, or 25 weeks of experience
• Ability to operate effectively whether you are early-career or several decades out of law school
• Comfort with uncertainty and changing priorities

Compensation & Benefits

• Base pay listed as $250,000 (used as the median)
• Compensation Range: $220K - $250K
