Overview
This position provides highly complex legal research services for the entire bench in a judicial district. The role also includes maintenance of the district’s law library. Courtroom and bailiff duties are not required.

Responsibilities
- Research legal issues presented by parties during litigation.
- Advise judges on research results and assist in developing an appropriate course of action in the case.
- Write the first draft of opinions issued by the court.
- Review documents and pleadings filed with the court as assigned by individual judges.
- Compile information gained from research on particular issues in a case.
- Maintain law library materials, including book, CD-ROM, and electronic research subscriptions, in more than one location.
- Recommend library materials for research and reference purposes.
- Authorize the use of research materials or the district’s law library to those other than district judges.
- Attend meetings and training as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisor Responsibilities
- No formal supervisory responsibility.
- Work is focused on producing one’s own work product and working within a unit performing similar functions.
- Rarely provides a lead function, advice, or explains work instructions to other employees or volunteers.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: Graduation from an accredited law school.
- Bar Admission / Eligibility: Possession of a certificate of admission to the Bar of the State of Colorado and eligibility to practice law before the courts of the State of Colorado.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to walk; use hands and arms for repetitive motions; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- Occasionally handles emergency or crisis situations.
- Frequently subject to interruptions, with multiple calls and inquiries.
- Noise level is usually quiet.

- The position reports to the Chief Judge in the designated district.
- This role is a classified, non-certified position considered at-will and may be terminated at any time with or without cause.
- In addition to this posting, the employer has posted a part-time magistrate role; ideally, they would like to hire one candidate to fill both positions.
