Liability Trial Attorney

Overview

A reputable commercial insurance carrier is seeking a Liability Trial Attorney to work remotely from Maryland. This role involves representing commercial insureds by preparing and trying moderate to high complexity General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.

Responsibilities

• Represent commercial insured clients in insurance defense litigation
• Conduct initial investigations and provide legal analysis and advice
• Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents
• Perform legal research
• Prepare for and conduct pre-trial discovery
• Handle hearings and trials aggressively
• Conduct post-trial activities as appropriate
• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Utilize video conferencing and computer-based systems for remote collaboration

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in Insurance Litigation
• Active membership in good standing with the Maryland and District of Columbia Bar Associations
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
• Experience using Lexis or Westlaw
• Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims processes, and insurance defense litigation
• Strong understanding of relevant law and legal procedures

Preferred Qualifications

• Active membership in the Virginia State Bar
• Experience handling Employment cases
• Background in insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation
• Well-organized with strong analytical skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proactive approach to managing caseloads and files
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
• Effective negotiation skills
• Ability to budget costs and assess exposure for clients
• Understanding of the staff counsel function within the business context
• Experience working in a paperless and remote environment

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $140,000 to $165,000 annually
• Eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus of 10%
