Managing Counsel, Commercial Litigation (Law & Regulation)

Overview

This role is an in-house counsel position focused on Commercial Litigation within a Global Litigation group. The team manages complex commercial litigation and legal matters involving the organization and its subsidiaries, including consumer class actions and challenges to core business practices. The role involves providing legal advice on litigation strategies and emerging legal risks.

Responsibilities

• Manage lawsuits and legal disputes, including oversight and direction of outside counsel
• Interview, retain, and manage law firms and outside counsel, including budget management
• Develop and review litigation strategies for assigned matters
• Attend court appearances, significant hearings, and trials as appropriate
• Travel as needed for business meetings, court appearances, and mediations
• Review and revise pleadings, motions, and significant case filings
• Collaborate with other legal teams and business units, providing reports and counsel on legal developments, risks, and compliance
• Incorporate AI-driven efficiencies in legal workflows such as drafting, research, and document review while maintaining attorney oversight
• Develop strategies for and participate in mediations and settlement conferences
• Prepare and review settlement agreements
• Oversee discovery processes, including reviewing requests, developing responses, coordinating document collection, and interviewing witnesses
• Assist in preparing witnesses for depositions, arbitrations, and trials; attend depositions as appropriate
• Prepare and present internal and external reports on significant litigation and legal issues
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited institution
• Active state bar license in good standing
• Minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in complex commercial litigation, including class actions, business disputes, and breach of contract matters
• Strong legal acumen combined with business knowledge
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, capable of representing positions to internal and external stakeholders including senior executives
• Experience leading multifaceted projects involving cross-functional teams
• Ability to develop pragmatic, balanced legal solutions aligned with strategic business goals
• Skilled in prioritizing assignments and managing a high caseload in a fast-paced environment
• Commitment to delivering exceptional client service
• Growth mindset toward technology, comfortable adopting or learning AI-enabled legal tools for drafting, research, discovery, and work-product refinement, with attention to confidentiality and verification
• Experience utilizing technology and data analytics in legal tasks; familiarity with legal data analytics tools is a plus

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience using AI-enabled legal tools
• Leadership experience on complex projects

Compensation & Benefits

• Annual salary range: $104,000 to $187,625, based on experience and qualifications
• Position requires successful completion of a background investigation

Location

• Position may require travel for internal meetings, court appearances, and mediations
