Massachusetts Title Examiner

Overview

This role involves performing title examination work for residential properties by searching public records and examining titles to determine the legal condition of property title. Title examination responsibilities are typically performed in a production center or branch office environment, with actual workflow determined by geographic practices.

In some cases, the Title Examiner gathers information and creates a commitment of title before passing it to a Title Officer.

Responsibilities

• Perform title examination and review the chain of title for a wide range of title orders, primarily residential
• Abstract and analyze records such as mortgages, liens, judgments, easements, vital statistics, and plat and map books to determine ownership, legal restrictions, and to verify the legal description and completeness of records
• Resolve most issues, including missing information, incomplete information, inaccurate information, and contradictory information contained in title documentation
• Prepare initial title commitment documentation based on the application of procedural guidelines
• Prepare and review reports for accuracy
• Provide underwriting interpretation within established guidelines (as needed)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• 2 years of title examination experience
• Massachusetts title examination experience
• State license(s) if required
• Strong detail and quality orientation
• Analytical review skills
• Research and investigative skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Communication skills (verbal and written)
• Customer service orientation
• Proficiency with standard MS skill set
• Proficiency with company operating systems
• Knowledge of legal terms helpful

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: $23.37 - $31.15 Hourly (Remote)
• Hiring range is a reasonable estimate of the base pay range for this position at the time of posting.
• Pay is based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, business requirements, and geographic location.
