Product Counsel

Overview

A leading global blockchain ecosystem behind the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume and registered users is seeking an experienced Product Counsel to join their product legal team. This role involves working on a range of products across multiple jurisdictions and representing Legal across the organization as it builds the future of crypto and blockchain.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary legal contact for supported business lines, managing legal needs and obligations for various products and services.
• Coordinate with other Legal teams (Commercial, Corporate, Regulatory, Data Privacy, Litigation) and cross-functional teams (Compliance, Risk, Marketing, Business Development, Customer Support, Tax).
• Facilitate product development throughout the full product life cycle, including design, launch, and ongoing advisory, while identifying and mitigating legal risks.
• Advise on product compliance with relevant regulations across multiple jurisdictions, collaborating with regional Legal and Compliance teams and external counsel as needed.
• Manage licensing and approval applications, product restrictions, compliance requirements (e.g., AML/CFT), and related topics.
• Draft, amend, and negotiate product-centric terms and commercial contracts; prepare contract templates to mitigate risk.
• Provide legal advice on product-related marketing, announcements, and social media campaigns.
• Advise on regulatory compliance and implementation, including financial instruments regulation (e.g., MIFID, MAR, EMIR) and digital assets regulation (e.g., MiCA, DORA).
• Support client complaints and disputes in collaboration with litigation colleagues.
• Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders across jurisdictions and time zones.
• Work with cross-functional teams to drive user acquisition and retention.
• Stay current with industry and market trends and conduct research on product-centric regulatory issues.
• Anticipate legal issues during end-to-end product planning and execution.
• Support licensing initiatives and other internal projects.
• Develop creative legal solutions to meet evolving business needs.
• Deliver training and create internal guidance for colleagues within and outside Legal.
• Manage engagement of external counsel in accordance with internal policies and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong team player with business acumen, excellent communication skills, and a keen interest in crypto and digital assets markets.
• Minimum 8-10 years of experience in a law firm, financial services firm, or fast-paced technology company.
• Ability to effectively multitask and prioritize across stakeholders and business units.
• Confidence in engaging senior stakeholders and delivering trusted, commercially minded legal advice.
• Relevant legal experience advising on digital assets and/or financial products at a fintech company or financial institution preferred.
• Experience in product counseling on privacy, data protection, intellectual property, or technology transactions/litigation is advantageous.
• Proactive, hands-on attitude with the ability to work independently on complex projects.
• Ability to collaborate with cross-functional business teams and maintain relationships with regulatory and compliance stakeholders.
