Senior Claims Counsel – Title Insurance (Remote)

Overview

Senior Claims Counsel role in an in-house capacity focused on complex title insurance and escrow claims, including coverage analysis, legal strategy, and resolution through final disposition.

This position manages claims from initial investigation through coverage determination and final resolution, including claims against the company.

Responsibilities

• Investigate facts and issues related to claims; determine whether coverage exists under the title policy
• Evaluate loss under the title policy and assess defenses for the insured and/or the company
• Determine when outside counsel is needed; develop and execute a plan to address the claim and manage claims and/or litigation through final resolution
• Negotiate settlements and resolutions with claimants, opposing counsel, and third parties
• Appear as the company representative in court proceedings, mediations, settlement conferences, and trials
• Manage claim budgets; review and approve outside counsel invoices and other expenses
• Determine settlement and expense reserves
• Direct outside counsel on litigation strategy throughout claim administration and litigation
• Identify and pursue sources for recovery

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience with emphasis on real estate matters, including title/ownership of real property, liens/easements/encumbrances, escrow, etc.
• Title insurance coverage experience, including some litigation, mediation, and arbitration experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation, and organizational skills
• Law Degree required
• Licensed and in good standing to practice law in any state of the United States
• Ability to develop, evaluate, and implement resolution strategies to fully conclude a claim
• Experience handling claims and insurance coverage
• Ability to work independently and demonstrate originality and ingenuity

Compensation & Benefits

• Pay Range: $129,300.00 - $172,300.00 Annually
