Senior Counsel - Alternative Risk, Reinsurance, and Insurance Claims

Overview

A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking a Senior Counsel specializing in Alternative Risk, Reinsurance, and Insurance Claims. This role involves supporting high-impact legal work that directly influences business performance and team success. The position requires collaboration across multiple functions to advance priorities, solve complex legal challenges, and deliver measurable outcomes. Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)

Compensation: $149,000 – $279,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Lead and support complex reinsurance transactions, including structuring and drafting agreements
• Provide legal advice on alternative risk financing solutions such as captives and catastrophe bonds
• Counsel on property and casualty insurance products and policy provisions
• Identify and mitigate legal and enterprise risks across the organization
• Advise on claims, coverage issues, and dispute resolution, including managing litigation

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
• Minimum of 15 years of relevant legal experience, particularly in insurance and reinsurance
• Strong expertise in complex legal practices and risk management
• Proven leadership in managing complex, strategic projects and negotiations
• Fully licensed to practice law and compliant with continuing legal education requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with insurance-linked securities and catastrophe bonds
• Familiarity with international regulations, including those applicable in Bermuda
• Proficiency in negotiation tactics and legal risk assessment
• Knowledge of financial compliance regulations
• Experience with insurance and reinsurance software, such as Claims Management Systems
• Understanding of corporate governance principles
• Skilled in drafting complex legal documents, including reinsurance treaties and ancillary agreements
