Senior Legal Counsel (Generalist)

Overview

The organization is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel—an in-house generalist who owns legal projects end-to-end, from framework design through forms and filings, and ensures legal work is effectively implemented in day-to-day business operations.

Responsibilities

• Act as a legal generalist and key partner to internal teams, including compliance, operations, finance, and technology.
• Own regulatory implementation projects, including:
  • Internal policies and compliance frameworks (including DORA in Malta)
  • Ongoing regulatory reporting
• Lead the legal workstream for new market entry, including:
  • Entity setup
  • Licensing
  • Engagement with local regulators and consultants
• Draft and negotiate commercial agreements, including complex non-standard contracts in new markets.
• Advise on employment and HR matters across multiple legal entities, including labor law and employment-related contracts.
• Manage external counsel when specialist advice is required.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with 7+ years of experience (in-house, law firm, or both).
• Strong ability to handle a broad range of legal matters independently and meet deadlines.
• Experience in a regulated or licensed business is a strong plus.
• Enjoys long, process-heavy projects—focused on building clean, compliant operations rather than single “headline” deals.
• Advanced user of modern AI tools; uses them daily.
• Clear communicator who can explain complex topics simply.
