Senior Legal Counsel (Product and Business Development)

Overview

A growing technology organization is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their Product and Business Development legal team. This role focuses on enabling innovation by providing pragmatic legal guidance in complex and evolving areas, particularly related to AI initiatives and new commercial models. The position involves shaping scalable legal frameworks that support product innovation, strategic partnerships, and sustainable growth.

Responsibilities

• Advise on the full life cycle of software products, services, plugins, and AI features, from early concept development through to retirement.
• Implement and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including AI regulation and consumer protection laws.
• Draft, negotiate, and provide counsel on strategic technology, AI partnership, and collaboration agreements.
• Support marketplace initiatives and manage relationships with third-party platforms.
• Guide legal aspects of educational, academic, and research initiatives.
• Improve legal operations by designing templates, playbooks, and self-service resources to reduce manual legal review.
• Provide product expertise to sales and procurement legal teams to assist in negotiating customer and vendor agreements.
• Share legal knowledge and best practices across the legal team and broader business units.

Requirements

• Formal law degree (LLB, LLM, Mgr, or equivalent).
• Extensive experience advising multinational corporations on technology and commercial law.
• Proven track record drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
• Deep understanding of software products, digital services, and technology business models.
• Fluency in English with strong negotiation and drafting skills for complex legal documents.
• Ability to manage multiple complex tasks and stakeholder relationships simultaneously.
• Pragmatic problem-solving skills balancing legal risk with business needs.
• Ability to clearly explain complex legal concepts to non-lawyers.
• Strong ownership mentality and follow-through.
• Comfort making decisions in ambiguous environments, especially regarding novel technologies like AI.
• Collaborative mindset and effective cross-team communication.
• Continuous improvement focus, including automating or standardizing routine tasks.
• Transparency, integrity, and willingness to speak up when necessary.

• Experience working closely with product, go-to-market, business development, marketplace, and university relations teams.
