A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking a Senior Manager Staff Counsel based in New York (remote, US-based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available). This role focuses on providing business-aligned legal guidance related to governance, compliance, and operational risk management. Responsibilities

Manage all aspects of lawsuit defenses for insured parties in liability and subrogation cases
Conduct interviews and evaluate candidates for employment within the legal department
Research laws and prepare legal documents, including briefs and opinions, for cases
Train and supervise junior attorneys, assist during trials, and ensure compliance with bar requirements
Review performance metrics and implement changes to enhance office productivity and client satisfaction

Qualifications

5-7 years of people management experience, preferably managing attorneys
Licensed in good standing to practice law in applicable jurisdictions with active Continuing Legal Education (CLE) compliance
At least 10 years of litigation experience, focusing on insurance defense or personal injury
Proven ability to handle complex trials with significant severity
Exceptional organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
