Special Counsel, Digital Assets

Overview

A leading organization in the Business Services sector is seeking a Special Counsel Digital Assets to lead initiatives at the intersection of scalable technology, AI-enabled capabilities, and business transformation. This role involves partnering with executive leadership and global, cross-functional stakeholders to enhance planning processes, financial discipline, and scalable operations. The position offers the opportunity to influence enterprise performance and long-term financial strategy within a Business Services environment.

Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available)

Compensation: $200,000 – $262,500 annually

Responsibilities

• Advise on legal structures for digital asset issuance and custody frameworks
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to design new platform features
• Assess legal implications of AI in asset lifecycle and compliance processes
• Analyze global regulatory developments and provide actionable guidance
• Lead legal support for complex product initiatives, balancing innovation and risk
• Draft and review agreements and policies related to digital assets
• Identify legal risks in roadmap planning and propose mitigation strategies

Qualifications

• 7+ years of legal experience in fintech, crypto, or financial services
• Deep expertise in digital asset products and blockchain systems
• Experience launching complex financial or crypto products within regulated environments
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks for digital assets and AI in finance
• Proven ability to independently lead high-impact legal initiatives across teams
• Experience translating complex regulatory concepts into practical guidance
• Active JD or equivalent membership in a U.S. state bar

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of digital assets, blockchain systems, and regulatory frameworks
• Familiarity with AI-enabled financial technologies
• Legal expertise in fintech, crypto, decentralized finance (DeFi), smart contracts, and programmable asset architectures
• Understanding of AI governance frameworks and legal compliance software
• Experience with risk assessment tools, blockchain development tools, and tokenization platforms
• Expertise in cross-border financial regulation
