Sr Counsel - Privacy & Technology

Overview

A leading organization in the Education, Government, and Non-Profit sector is seeking a Senior Counsel specializing in Privacy and Technology. This role involves delivering key outcomes for customers and stakeholders within these sectors, collaborating cross-functionally, and taking ownership of strategic priorities. Location

• Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)

Compensation

• $166,430 – $225,170 annually

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement enterprise-wide data governance and compliance strategies focused on state consumer privacy laws
• Review and negotiate complex contracts with an emphasis on privacy and data protection provisions
• Lead and manage Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and maintain Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs)
• Draft and oversee website privacy statements to ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws
• Provide legal guidance on technology transactions involving personal data

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Admission to one or more State Bars
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience in privacy and data protection
• Expertise in state consumer privacy laws and global privacy regulations
• Proven experience drafting and negotiating complex contracts
• Strong knowledge of privacy impact assessments and data governance practices

Desired Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with State Consumer Privacy Laws such as CCPA/CPRA, VCDPA, CPA
• Experience with Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs), Transfer Impact Assessments (TIAs), and Records of Processing Activities (RoPAs)
• Knowledge of UK GDPR
• Proficiency with vendor engagement tools, contract management tools, data governance tools, privacy compliance software, data management platforms (DMPs), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems
