Staff Attorney

Overview

An in-house remote Staff Attorney position is available to litigate general liability, auto liability, subrogation, and related tort cases. The role supports pending litigation with an emphasis on achieving the best possible outcomes. The attorney reports to the Assistant Managing Attorney and is expected to independently manage cases from inception through trial.

Responsibilities

• Handle assigned litigation and non-litigated legal work.
• Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues; conduct legal research.
• Independently develop and present defense strategies on behalf of clients.
• Prepare pleadings, depositions, motions, and briefs to support litigation strategies without supervision, based on experience and expertise.
• Provide effective and timely communications, information, legal advice, and other services to clients and claims customers on legal and factual issues in a technology-driven environment.
• Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, and alternative dispute resolutions.
• Provide legal opinions to the Managing Attorney, Assistant Managing Attorney, staff, clients, and claims customers.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.
• License to practice in good standing in the State of Illinois.
• Minimum of 3 years of legal experience in litigation.
• Strong legal research and writing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Indiana and/or Wisconsin licenses.
• Additional experience in Indiana and/or Wisconsin.

Compensation & Benefits

• Annualized base pay range: $118,800 - $178,200
• Actual base pay may vary and could be above or below the listed range based on factors including performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role.
• Base pay is one component of the total compensation package. Additional rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

Location

Remote work opportunity. The selected candidate will travel for appearances at assigned venues as needed.
