Overview
This full-time, short-term Staff Attorney position supports legal compliance across multiple national organizations focused on election and tax law. The role reports to Senior Counsel and involves providing legal guidance to program teams. The assignment is expected to conclude on or before November 30, 2026, with an annual salary of $91,150 and a 40-hour workweek.
Responsibilities
- Provide cross-program legal support and guidance on campaign finance, lobbying, and election activities in collaboration with Senior Counsel (30%)
- Review, draft, and advise on contracts, leases, grant agreements, and other legal documents under Senior Counsel supervision (15%)
- Assist in developing and updating compliance education and training tools related to election and tax law for employees (15%)
- Support the Senior Compliance Manager in managing data systems, compliance procedures, and internal processes for campaign finance reporting and time tracking (15%)
- Conduct independent legal research, prepare memoranda, and evaluate compliance issues (10%)
- Monitor changes in tax and election law relevant to organizational compliance (5%)
- Perform other duties as assigned (10%)
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with a strong academic record
- Membership in good standing with any state bar association
- 1-3 years of legal experience, preferably including tax-exempt governance, lobbying, and election law
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Commitment to delivering high-quality, timely, and effective results
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders while maintaining legal compliance standards
- High ethical standards and sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex legal concepts to varied audiences
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
- Proficiency with Google Office suite
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual salary: $91,150
