Staff Counsel, Insurance Defense (REMOTE)

Overview

A nationwide consumer services organization is seeking a Trial Attorney to join their legal team. This fully remote position is based in California and offers the opportunity to continue litigating while working in-house, with no billable hours and a strong work/life balance.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate lawsuits to gather relevant information and develop legal defense strategies
• Identify potential risks to policyholders or the organization
• Create and implement plans for evidence collection and file necessary motions
• Prepare for and attend court proceedings, including trials and arbitrations
• Communicate regularly with policyholders and claims representatives regarding case progress
• Prepare and present legal opinions on claims matters
• Participate in negotiation and settlement discussions with external parties

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
• Active membership in the California Bar
• First or second chair trial experience
• Insurance defense experience, preferably in automobile, personal injury, and premises liability
• Ability to manage a demanding workload and prioritize tasks effectively
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $140,000 - $190,000 per year
