Trade Finance Attorney

Overview

A Financial Services Group is seeking an experienced lawyer with over 6 years of experience in Trade Financing for an ongoing full-time engagement. This role offers the flexibility to work remotely or from New York offices.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of trade finance documents, including letters of credit, standby letters of credit, documentary collections, bank guarantees, demand guarantees, bills of lading, trust receipts, and supply chain finance and receivables purchase agreements.
• Provide advice on structured trade and commodity finance transactions.
• Support negotiation and documentation of correspondent banking, risk participation, and forfaiting arrangements, including master risk participation agreements.
• Collaborate with credit and risk teams to assess counterparty and country risk in cross-border transactions, addressing sovereign risk, currency controls, and enforceability of security interests across multiple jurisdictions.
• Coordinate with external counsel in multiple jurisdictions on cross-border transactions and manage legal opinions regarding enforceability, security, and local law requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 years of legal experience with a focus on trade financing.
• Strong understanding of secured transactions, syndicated and bilateral lending, and cross-border security and enforcement issues.
• Ability to work full-time.
• Employment will be on a W-2 basis through a workforce solutions company for the duration of the engagement.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with structured or commodity trade finance.
• Familiarity with supply chain finance platforms or digital trade initiatives.
