Overview

This role involves serving as an Associate Senior Counsel responsible for managing a caseload of predominantly moderate to higher complexity insurance defense litigation matters, including Major Case litigation depending on the line of business. The position requires delivering high-quality, proactive case handling and providing legal expertise and litigation skills to achieve optimal results for insured customers. The role also includes mentoring less experienced attorneys and collaborating with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of moderate and higher exposure cases, including Major Case litigation matters as applicable.
  • Utilize pre-trial and trial experience to effectively try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
  • Conduct proficient to advanced legal research and produce strong, persuasive legal writing and presentations.
  • Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
  • Independently attend court events, depositions, and other legal appointments.
  • Provide in-depth case analysis and strategic recommendations to insured clients and claims partners.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies and prepare testimony.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and business partners, managing these relationships responsibly.
  • Deliver internal and external training, seminars, and legal updates to clients and claims partners.
  • Provide leadership by mentoring attorneys and legal support staff.
  • Contribute to special projects and identify opportunities to support office goals and business needs.
  • Utilize available technology, case management systems, and automation tools effectively.
  • Travel as required to meet business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license in good standing to practice law in the relevant state(s).
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
  • At least 5 years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Proven track record of preparing and/or litigating jury trials with successful courtroom outcomes.
  • Strong technical knowledge in relevant practice areas and ability to communicate complex litigation matters effectively.
  • Proficient oral and written advocacy skills, including experience with summary judgment and appellate matters.
  • In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
  • Demonstrated leadership through mentoring and influencing skills.
  • Advanced negotiation skills and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
  • Flexible and agile mindset with willingness to take on evolving challenges.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to hearings, trials, depositions, or other court proceedings as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling Major Case litigation matters.
  • History of successful summary judgment and appellate outcomes.
  • Ability to foster collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $120,400.00 - $198,700.00 annually, determined by factors including role scope, location, skills, education, and experience.
