Associate Legal News Editor
Overview
An organization serving customers in over 150 countries is seeking an Associate Legal News Editor to monitor and identify important legal developments and write news articles for daily news production. This role involves helping set direction and providing tactical guidance to the team, with a focus on continual improvement of publication content and meeting performance goals.
This position can be performed anywhere within the United States.
Responsibilities
- Gather news and identify relevant official documents regarding events and developments in assigned legal practice areas
- Select which developments to report
- Digest and explain court opinions and other litigation-related documents following managerial guidance
- Write news articles for daily upload to the website and inclusion in print publications
- Meet all deadlines to ensure timely production of publications
- Review analytics of web-based content usage to help drive content focus
Requirements
- Hard news reporting experience with excellent news judgment
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications preferred (relevant experience considered in lieu of degree)
- Ability to multitask and reprioritize throughout the day
- Ability to understand and explain complex legal topics
- Skilled and speedy news writing ability
- Ability to network with attorney sources and use online and other resources to gather information
- Excellent interviewing skills
- Ability to work Eastern Time Zone hours
- Ability to work independently
