Overview
This role is 100% remote and supports US Eastern Time working hours. The organization is seeking a professional to own attorney development and associate growth programs end-to-end, working closely with firm leadership as part of the People Team.
The position is a full-time, Independent Contractor contract.
Responsibilities
- Build and implement a feedback cadence that supports associate growth year-round (beyond an annual review process).
- Manage stakeholder relationships with partners and firm leadership, tailoring approaches to each stakeholder rather than using a one-size-fits-all method.
- Create a sense of community through programs and touchpoints that help associates feel they belong to the firm.
- Own learning & development (L&D): design and manage L&D programs end-to-end, with course design grounded in adult learning theory to support skill development and career progression.
- Coach and mentor associates directly as a people manager: coach individuals, resolve performance concerns, and support development planning.
- Use data to drive decisions by analyzing utilization and performance data to identify under- or mis-utilization and recommend appropriate actions.
- Contribute to talent development and acquisition efforts, including future programs to grow the attorney team, applying working knowledge of US employment law where it intersects with development and performance.
- Represent attorney development as a credible, influential function within the organization—communicating confidently and directly to influence how leadership thinks about people development.
Requirements
- Legal or attorney-development background.
- Experience working inside a law firm or a legal tech environment, with an understanding of what motivates attorneys and what development means in that context.
- Strong L&D program design skills, including the ability to build training grounded in adult learning theory.
- Real coaching and mentoring experience; ideally prior people management experience.
- Working knowledge of US employment law (not as a legal expert, but comfortable knowing when issues require closer review).
- Data-driven approach, including comfort pulling together utilization and performance data to identify issues and make the case for action.
- Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) for coaching attorneys and influencing leadership.
- Americas time zone coverage, ideally ET, with real overlap with the team and attorneys supported.
- Ability to operate with judgment in ambiguous situations: identify what’s missing, prioritize next steps, and drive outcomes.
- Comfort with ambiguity; resilient, direct, transparent, and collaborative working style, with an AI-forward and tech-savvy mindset.
