Overview

This role involves contract attorney work focused on reviewing legal bills submitted by law firms to clients. It is suited for licensed attorneys with prior experience at large law firms seeking part-time, flexible, and less stressful work. The position requires strong knowledge of legal billing practices, attention to detail, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Complete an online paid training course (8 to 12 hours estimated)
  • Work 15 to 25 hours per week
  • Analyze hourly legal bills for compliance with client Outside Counsel Billing Guidelines
  • Use proprietary software to perform billing review tasks
  • Identify excessive or non-compliant charges on legal bills
  • Verify accuracy of expenses and disbursements
  • Write clear, persuasive narratives explaining why charges are excessive or non-compliant
  • Complete assigned work within three business days
  • Participate in monthly review sessions with the operations team to improve analysis quality

Requirements

  • Licensed attorney based in the United States
  • Minimum 5 years of experience at a large law firm with hourly billing
  • Commitment to high standards of compliant and ethical legal billing
  • Strong knowledge of legal work, law firm policies, and billing practices
  • Proficient with computer software and emerging technologies
  • Highly detail-oriented
  • Comfortable reviewing and analyzing large volumes of data and performing data entry
  • Possess a healthy level of skepticism
  • Good tact and diplomacy; able to persuade effectively without being pushy
  • Clear, concise, and polished writing skills
  • Strong sense of ownership and pride in work; meticulous about accuracy and quality
