Overview

A healthcare technology organization is seeking its first in-house attorney to serve as a trusted legal partner. This role will own day-to-day legal operations, enable compliant revenue growth, and ensure adherence to healthcare regulations including HIPAA and data privacy compliance. The position replaces and significantly expands beyond the current contracts management function by bringing legal expertise in-house for the first time.

Responsibilities

  • Onboard and familiarize yourself with the company’s people, products, and operating model.
  • Build strong working relationships with Sales, Customer Experience, Product, Finance, Security, and People Operations teams.
  • Review existing contract templates, Business Associate Agreements (BAAs), and legal workflows to identify immediate risks and opportunities for improvement.
  • Independently review and negotiate customer, partner, and vendor agreements, including BAAs.
  • Streamline contract review processes to support faster and lower-risk deal execution.
  • Proactively advise on HIPAA, data privacy, and security-related issues in collaboration with Sales, Security, Product, and Engineering teams.
  • Support legal due diligence efforts related to potential acquisitions, investments, or strategic partnerships.
  • Improve contract standards, playbooks, and risk frameworks aligned with private equity expectations.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership on legal risk, compliance posture, and business strategy.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and admission to practice law.
  • Experience in healthcare law, data privacy, HIPAA compliance, and contract negotiation.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership in an environment without a pre-existing legal playbook.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to communicate legal concepts clearly to non-legal audiences.
  • Flexibility to adapt to evolving priorities, processes, and structures typical of growth-stage, private equity-backed companies.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a growth mindset with motivation to build legal functions from the ground up.
  • Resilience and composure under pressure with an optimistic and pragmatic approach to challenges.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in or with healthcare technology companies.
  • Familiarity with private equity-backed company legal frameworks.
  • Prior experience supporting legal due diligence for acquisitions or strategic partnerships.
