Counsel, HR Products

Overview

A growing technology company is seeking a highly motivated, business-minded attorney to join their Legal & Compliance team as Counsel, HR Products. This role involves providing key legal guidance to the business as it launches Employer of Record (EOR) services in new countries and offers ongoing product and employment counseling across launched EOR countries. The attorney will also serve as product counsel for HR product teams, including Professional Employer Organization (PEO) and Benefits products.

Responsibilities

• Provide employment counsel to EOR HR and PEO Advisor teams.
• Analyze and advise on employment rules and regulations to ensure compliant hiring and offboarding through EORs in various jurisdictions.
• Prepare employment agreement templates, termination notices and agreements, and policy documents for EOR operations.
• Advise Product teams on insurance licensing and regulatory compliance, including ERISA and COBRA.
• Collaborate with Product, Operations, Business Development, Sales, and Client Services teams to build and manage the product counseling function.
• Navigate complex regulatory frameworks domestically and internationally to develop scalable, innovative product solutions.
• Promote a culture of compliance and integrity throughout company operations.
• Provide general legal support as needed.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in-house or at a law firm.
• Substantive knowledge and experience in employment law.
• Experience with PEOs or EORs is preferred.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a solution-oriented approach.
• Strong project management and organizational skills.
• Excellent drafting, written, and verbal communication skills, capable of translating complex legal concepts into practical advice.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• A sense of humor.

Compensation & Benefits

• Competitive salary range for U.S.-based employees: $156,000 - $260,000 USD per year.
• Competitive salary range for Canadian-based employees: $120,000 - $200,000 CAD per year.
• Salary offers consider professional background, experience, and location.

Location & Work Environment

• Based in San Francisco, CA.
• The organization values in-office collaboration and expects office-based employees living within a defined radius of the office to work onsite at least three days per week.
