Overview

A law firm is seeking a Practice Innovation Attorney to join their Practice Innovation Team. This role involves leveraging legal expertise and innovation experience to develop and implement technology and process improvements that enhance legal service delivery across multiple practice groups. The attorney will work closely with firm attorneys and clients on projects involving AI, automation, emerging technologies, and digital strategy initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with attorney practice teams to understand legal workflows and client service models, recommending technology or process improvements.
  • Promote adoption of data analytics and AI platforms by demonstrating best practices and relevant use cases.
  • Act as liaison between attorneys and Information Services teams, translating legal and business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Manage business requirements and deliverables for document automation projects using tools like Contract Express or similar.
  • Identify use cases and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robotic process automation (RPA) solutions.
  • Develop creative use cases for existing technologies and build business cases for new legal technology tools.
  • Stay informed on advanced technologies and industry trends relevant to law firms.
  • Manage projects using agile methodologies and coordinate with the Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure timely delivery.
  • Evaluate and recommend legal technology tools aligned with strategic goals.
  • Educate attorneys on emerging technologies and foster continuous feedback to improve adoption.
  • Build strong relationships across practice groups, administrative teams, external networks, and clients to support innovation.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Juris Doctorate degree.
  • 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in a law firm or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to quickly learn new software applications.
  • Strong internet research skills and experience with legal and financial research systems.
  • Experience with visual collaboration and diagramming tools such as Lucid or Miro.

Communication Skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to interact with attorneys and key personnel professionally.
  • Ability to present information clearly in written and oral formats to various levels of staff and management.
  • Skilled in writing business correspondence, procedure manuals, reports, and articles.

Analytical and Reasoning Skills

  • Ability to apply common sense and problem-solving skills to carry out instructions and resolve issues.
  • Capacity to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to develop tactics and execute plans pragmatically.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary ranges by location:
    • Ohio, Georgia, Texas, Florida, Colorado: $145,000 - $175,000 per year
    • California, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Washington D.C., Washington: $155,000 - $195,000 per year
