Real Estate Counsel / Real Estate Attorney PERM DIRECT HIRE

Overview

A permanent direct hire opportunity is available for a Real Estate Counsel / Real Estate Attorney to join an Asset Management legal team. This role offers a hybrid work arrangement based in Des Moines, Iowa, with remote options. The position includes a competitive salary up to $130,000 plus bonus potential and a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements including new leases, amendments, terminations, estoppels, SNDAs, vendor contracts, easements, CCRs, REAs, and service agreements.
• Manage and resolve tenant disputes, enforcement issues, cure notices, and post-closing documents such as assignments, consents, and transfers.
• Provide legal advice to asset management teams on lease interpretations and enforcement strategies.
• Coordinate with property managers, brokers, third-party vendors, lenders, title companies, and surveyors.
• Support legal matters related to condemnation, easements, risk management, and compliance affecting various assets.
• Identify and address legal risks proactively, offering clear, business-aligned guidance.
• Maintain and improve internal legal files, templates, and contract databases.
• Participate in due diligence for hold-sell decisions.
• Conduct legal research on issues related to real estate operations, including permitted use, exclusivity, and geographic requirements.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to at least one U.S. state bar.
• 2–3 years of experience in real estate transactions, leasing, or related legal areas.
• Strong project management skills.
• Ability to resolve complex legal issues and provide practical business solutions.
• Service-oriented mindset.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and document management systems.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and eagerness for continuous skill development.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with asset management legal teams.
• Familiarity with negotiation and drafting of complex property documents.
