Senior Staff Attorney Insurance Defense

Overview

A remote opportunity is available for a Senior Staff Attorney to litigate cases primarily in Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk Counties. This role is suited for an experienced attorney with significant trial and litigation experience in Labor Law/construction site accidents, Premises Liability, Products Liability, as well as Commercial and Personal Automobile accidents. The attorney will work independently from case inception through trial and report to the Staff Legal Managing Attorney or Assistant Managing Attorney.

Responsibilities

• Handle complex and high exposure litigation cases
• Analyze substantive and procedural legal and factual issues; conduct extensive legal research
• Develop and present defense strategies independently for various clients
• Prepare complex pleadings, written discovery, depositions, motions, and briefs with minimal supervision
• Provide timely legal advice and information to clients and claims partners in a technology-driven environment
• Communicate professionally with courts, clients, claims partners, witnesses, opposing counsel, and co-counsel
• Ensure prompt, efficient, and effective disposition of assigned cases
• Prepare and present witnesses and evidence at trials, judicial and administrative hearings, and alternative dispute resolutions
• Research, draft, file, and argue appellate briefs in reviewing courts
• Provide legal opinions to Managing Attorney, Assistant Managing Attorney, staff, clients, and claims customers

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school
• Licensed to practice law in New York State; admission to federal courts is a plus
• Member in good standing of the New York Bar Association
• Minimum of 10 years of insurance defense legal experience
• Documented first chair jury trial and appellate expertise
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize duties and manage time effectively
• Strong communication, computer, and technological skills, including the ability to quickly leverage new AI tools
• Demonstrated expertise in handling claim cases and litigation

Compensation & Benefits

• Annualized base pay range: $132,400 - $198,600
• Actual base pay may vary based on performance, proficiency, and demonstration of required competencies
• Compensation package may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition
