Overview

This role is an exempt position within the Intake Services department, supporting conflict of interest clearance for new business, attorney and staff hires, and acquisitions/mergers of other law firms. The position reports to the Senior Manager of Intake Services and coordinates workflow and personnel activities to ensure optimal efficiency, accuracy, and timely output. The role also focuses on continuous process improvement and implementing automation related to conflicts analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in identifying, resolving, and clearing potential or actual conflicts of interest related to new firm representation or lateral personnel.
  • Provide waiver and engagement letter exemplars upon request; assist with drafting waivers and engagement letters.
  • Review waivers and engagement letters received from clients to confirm required conditions have been met.
  • Analyze information provided with new matter requests for compliance with firm policies and applicable rules of professional responsibility.
  • Review and edit draft engagement letters for compliance with applicable professional responsibility requirements.
  • Review client outside counsel guidelines and assess the firm’s ability to comply.
  • Stay current on trends in conflicts of interest management and identify areas for potential improvement.
  • Coordinate with Intake Services managers and supervisors to develop and apply best-practice recommendations and quality assurance protocols to support consistent conflict analysis.
  • Develop and implement conflicts training programs for newly hired staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • JD from an accredited institution and good standing to a state bar in which the firm has a physical office is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a lawyer in a mid-size to large law firm is required; significant experience in conflict of interest law and/or professional responsibility is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable ethical, legal, and risk management rules and requirements governing conflict of interest and the conflict resolution process, including related compliance issues/guidelines applicable to international law firms.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, follow through, and complete time-sensitive projects with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment, producing quality work under extremely tight deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel with tact and diplomacy, including interpersonal communication skills necessary to maintain effective relationships with partners, attorneys, and staff.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to provide direction.
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent thinking and decision-making.
  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with automated conflict check software. InTapp Open software experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience in conflict of interest law and/or professional responsibility.
  • InTapp Open software experience.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Expected annual salary range: $85,000 – $120,000. Salary offered will be determined based on experience level, education/training, and relevant skills.
