Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Conflicts Counsel. This role may be performed remotely or from any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Conflicts, Client Engagement, and Risk Management teams to identify and resolve conflicts of interest related to new and existing business, lateral hires, outside counsel guidelines (OCGs), requests for proposals (RFPs), and other conflicts matters.
  • Direct and conduct conflicts review processes, including conflict identification, resolution, drafting waivers, reviewing lateral candidates, and recommending ethical wall implementations.
  • Communicate clearly and timely with partners, staff, and leadership regarding conflicts requests and complex issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of conflicts resolutions and assist in updating erroneous or outdated conflicts information.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of technologies supporting conflicts operations, including Intapp Open and Intapp Terms.
  • Serve as a resource for conflicts analysts and provide guidance on conflicts identification and resolution.
  • Discuss conflicts issues with attorneys, analysts, intake staff, and leadership to resolve potential conflicts while maintaining objectivity.
  • Review conflicts requests and provide concise evaluations and documented resolutions.
  • Draft and review waiver and engagement letter language to address conflicts issues appropriately.
  • Make recommendations regarding ethical wall implementation.
  • Stay current on legal ethics, case law, professional responsibility rules, and firm policies related to conflicts and risk.
  • Review client outside counsel guidelines and engagement agreements to identify deviations and work with partners to address them.
  • Assist with conflicts clearance for new hires, including analysis, drafting agreements, communication with recruiting and leadership, and training new lateral partners.
  • Support Client Development team and partners in reviewing and responding to RFPs and business opportunities.
  • Prepare and deliver training on conflicts, ethics, and professional responsibility to the Conflicts team and firm personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree and active U.S. law license in the candidate's jurisdiction of residence.
  • Minimum of three years of direct, full-time conflicts experience at a large law firm.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience with online legal reference materials and Boolean searching preferred.
  • Strong preference for experience with Intapp Open and Intapp Terms.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve conflicts of interest issues effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize conflicts requests.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex conflicts issues.
  • Ability and availability to travel occasionally to other firm locations.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is commensurate with skills, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:

  • California: $131,000 - $268,000
  • Colorado: $121,000 - $215,000
  • Illinois: $119,000 - $230,000
  • Maryland: $127,000 - $193,000
  • Massachusetts: $131,000 - $251,000
  • Minnesota: $131,000 - $217,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $143,000 - $258,000
  • New York: $122,000 - $264,000
  • Vermont: $130,000 - $249,000
  • Washington: $127,000 - $242,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $169,000 - $249,000

Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
