VP, AI Innovation (Legal)

Overview

This role involves leading AI innovation initiatives focused on legal talent and marketplace operations within a legal services organization. The position reports directly to the CEO and collaborates closely with Sales, Marketing, and Product leadership to translate AI opportunities into measurable business impact.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and launch an AI-Enabled counsel program, including training, certification, and governance standards.
• Identify, evaluate, and structure partnerships with leading legal AI providers.
• Operationalize AI solutions within the legal marketplace to improve client outcomes, talent performance, and service delivery innovation.
• Develop practical AI playbooks tailored to key legal practice areas.
• Establish responsible AI usage guidelines for independent legal talent.
• Measure and scale performance improvements in speed, quality, and margin.
• Support enterprise-level discussions where AI-enabled capabilities serve as differentiators.
• Advise leadership on long-term AI strategy and competitive positioning.

Requirements

• Minimum 6 years of experience in legal, legal operations, legal innovation, legal technology, or professional services transformation.
• Strong familiarity with in-house legal teams and/or flexible legal talent models.
• Experience building training, certification, or capability development programs.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools and workflow automation.
• Practical understanding of AI governance and risk mitigation.
• Proven track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and driving measurable outcomes.
• Strategic thinker with strong execution focus, commercial acumen, and systems orientation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in AI innovation specifically applied to legal operations or law practice.
