Overview
This role involves serving as a Conflicts Attorney responsible for identifying and resolving potential legal and business conflicts. The position supports adherence to best practices and firm policies in client intake, new hires, and growth opportunities. It reports to the Associate General Counsel - New Business, Conflicts and Ethics. A hybrid or remote work arrangement is available.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of ethical, legal, and risk management principles.
- Analyze and critically assess due diligence to identify, report, and address potential ethical and business conflicts of interest and client worthiness issues related to new business, firm growth, and new personnel.
- Engage proactively with attorneys, staff, and team members to gather information and resolve conflicts of interest or other business issues.
- Draft and review conflict waivers, engagement letters, and other engagement-related documents to ensure compliance with ethical rules and firm policies.
- Review outside counsel agreements, requests for proposals, and similar documents to identify and resolve potential conflict issues and ensure compliance with policies and ethical standards; coordinate reviews with other stakeholders.
- Establish and implement ethical walls.
- Maintain accurate records and tracking systems to ensure effective information sharing, proactive follow-up, and timely documentation of conflict clearance processes in firm databases.
- Assist firm personnel in understanding conflicts and new business intake policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of 4 years of legal experience, preferably within a law firm.
- Active membership in good standing with a state bar.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required.
- Knowledge of law firm conflict clearance, business intake procedures, and business organizational structures.
- Exceptional analytical, decisive, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to communicate concise, timely, accurate, and logical conclusions and recommendations based on analysis of varied data.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and deliver quality, accurate work.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, shifting priorities, and tight deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage authoritatively at all levels.
- Strong customer service orientation and collegial interaction.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows:
- Rochester, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
- Albany, NY: $107,000 to $158,950
- Providence, RI: $107,000 to $158,950
- Chicago, IL: $118,000 to $174,900
- Washington, DC: $118,000 to $174,900
- Boston, MA: $118,000 to $174,900
- Los Angeles, CA: $118,000 to $174,900
In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on factors such as work performance, geographic location, experience, education, and qualifications. This contingent compensation is variable and may be zero in some cases.
