Senior Commercial Counsel

Overview

A legal services organization is seeking a Senior Commercial Counsel with exceptional expertise in commercial contract law. This role emphasizes delivering high-quality work efficiently by leveraging advanced tools and legal technology.

Responsibilities

• Manage complex commercial transactions end-to-end, including technology agreements, SaaS and enterprise contracts, vendor and partner agreements, and intellectual property licenses.
• Negotiate contracts efficiently, identifying key risks and focusing on essential issues to close deals without unnecessary delays.
• Utilize AI and legal technology tools to enhance work quality and reduce turnaround times.
• Provide clear and timely advice to internal stakeholders on commercial risk, contract strategy, and deal structure.
• Contribute proactively to process improvements, product development, or new practice areas as opportunities arise.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership in good standing.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in commercial contracts practice; fewer years considered with a strong case.
• Deep knowledge of technology transactions, intellectual property licensing, and SaaS agreements.
• Experience working with or advising high-growth technology or emerging companies is preferred.
• Proven ability to produce high-quality, sophisticated legal work efficiently.
• Proficiency in using AI and legal technology tools in daily practice.
• Strong communication skills with clear, direct recommendations and appropriate caveats.
• Self-directed with the ability to collaborate effectively and know when to involve others.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building or improving legal intake processes, playbooks, or contracting workflows.
• Interest or experience in leading a specific vertical or subject matter area.
• History of mentoring junior attorneys or contributing to team development.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $180,000 - $240,000 per year.
• Remote-first work environment with quarterly in-person meetings for collaboration and planning.

This is a remote-first position with occasional quarterly on-site meetings for team collaboration and planning.
